The serene town of Igodo in Yewa South Local Government, Ogun State came alive, last Thusday, when music legend, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, led dignitaries, top state government functionaries, associates and families to the inauguration of a Police Post he built for the community.
He received an award of excellence from the Idogo Association of Progressive Union (IAPU) as the Chief Patron of the association along side the Onigodo of Idogo, Oba Saheed Olubiyi, who was bestowed the Royal father of the association.
The 2-in-1 event, which coincided with the posthumous birthday of the wife of the music icon, the late Evangelist Juliana Obey-Fabiyi, also showcased the heart of gratitude of the entire municipality towards Obey, who was described as great philanthropist the community ever had.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, who was represented by the Area Commander of Yewa South Division, Titus Samuel, described the gesture as a rare development and a typical example of community policing. He commended the commitment of the music icon in giving back to his immediate society, urging other Nigerians to emulate Obey.
On the occasion, Obey, said: “Idogo is very important to me. Though my father and mother were not from this town, the fact that they conceived and brought me up here and most importantly, my music career started from here, makes it a great impact to my life history. This is my source and I am proud to be the son of the soil. The newly commissioned Police Post is to boost security in the town and protect the people, because Idogo is a border town with a French-neighbouring country.”
Obey, who built a town hall, reconstructed the Methodist Church, built a block of classrooms in the church’s school, a family house among others, however, urged the sons and daughters, especially youths to be committed in developing the town, just as he promised more good works in the town.
