My dream for DGN--Fred Amata

Newly elected president of the Directors Guild of Nigeria,DGN, Fred Amata, said he can’t wait to hit the ground running as soon as he’s sworn in as the new helmsman of the Guild.

Amata, who is still engrossed in the euphoria of his victory, made the promise shortly after he was declared winner of the keenly contested presidential election of the guild which held last Friday in Asaba. Fred Amata The prolific actor cum director polled 48 votes to beat his close rival, Lancelot Imasuen, who got 43 votes. Other contestants, Dickson Ireogbu and Kingsley Omoefe, polled 3 votes and 7 votes respectively.

Jubilation rented the air as soon as Fred Amata was declared the President-Elect.But for the tactical withdrawal of Dickson Ireogbu who claimed that the sacrifice he made was for the good of the guild, Fred’s victory would have been uncertain.

But speaking with HVP, shortly after the election, Fred Amata reiterated his resolve to add value to the guild during his tenure. He told his colleagues before the election that he had what it takes to be the president, promising, however, to get the guild a befitting secretariat, a function ing constitution and website in his first three months in office.

“We feel that in the first three months in office, we should have achieved three things: reviewing our constitution, getting a befitting secretariat and website for the guild. After this, we shall start thinking of how to consolidate the guild,” Fred said, adding, “If you were at the convention yesterday(last Thursday), you would have observed that one of the greatest challenges and concerns of our members is the need to review our constitution. That we have already taken into consideration, and we are happy that we will meet the deadline we set for it. You will start to assess this administration by the end of our first quarter in office.”

Speaking further, Fred said while the immediate past administration led by Andy Amenechi has raised the bar, he would not relent in his effort to improve on what it has done so far.

While calling on other aspirants to join hands with him in moving the guild forward, Fred attributed his victory to the finger of God. He maintained that taking DGN forward remains a collective responsibility of all his colleagues.
